Queen of the Night is a visualizer I created for the song “Queen of the Night” by Sam Quealy, built entirely in After Effects. The piece combines original footage, found media, and hand-drawn rotoscoping to create a layered, collage-like aesthetic. I drew inspiration from early 2000s styles such as Frutiger Aero, Metro design, and the iconic iPod silhouette commercials. The project became an exploration of visual rhythm, stylistic blending, and how motion can amplify the energy of a track.
Video Painting
Video Painting is an experimental piece created in After Effects using footage I shot at Rockefeller State Park. I applied layered effects, distortion, and custom color treatments to transform the footage into something painterly and surreal. The final look was inspired by horror game environments and dreamlike walkthroughs, where reality feels slightly warped. It became a way to blend cinematography with abstract motion design.
What Happened When I Left You
This mixed-media animation was created in After Effects as a visual response to an excerpt from Lana Del Rey’s Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. The assignment required no on-screen text or lyrics, so I focused on translating the poem’s tone through color, texture, and symbolic imagery. I combined layered footage, hand-crafted elements, and motion design to build a narrative atmosphere. The piece aims to capture the emotion and nostalgia embedded in the writing.
New Media Bumper
This bumper was designed in After Effects for the Purchase College New Media Fair as a short piece explaining what New Media represents. I connected themes of art and technology through motion, typography, and OS-inspired interface motifs. The visual style references classic Apple design, particularly the look of Mac OS System 7. It serves as a dynamic and energetic introduction to the major.
Loading Animation
This is a short looping animation built in After Effects featuring rotating tomoe shapes. I explored timing, easing, and motion curves to create a smooth loading sequence that feels rhythmic and hypnotic. The goal was to design a clean, minimal motion graphic with strong visual flow. It also served as a study in creating seamless loops.
